Annoying fanfare

I know that this has posted before but I reinstalled Serpent Isle with beta 2 hoping the annoying fanfare played when defeating an enemy would be gone but it is still there. Does anyone know any way to get rid of it?(Aside from playing with no sound.) Thanks in advance.

That's been a "feature" ever since the original serpent isle. Why would you want it removed? ;)

The fanfare should be playing every time I enter any town or building as I am the savior of the world.

Not that, I'm talking about the annoying fanfare that plays every time you kill something. People here have said it's supposed to only play when you kill something barehanded, but it plays every time.

I know what you're talking about. It's something I've looked into, but have never figured out. I thought I'd fixed it once, but it seems to come and go (which is what makes it so hard to deal with).

I am playing SI now, and I am getting the fanfare as well. Would a savegame help track this down? I could do that easily enough.

I just added a bugtracker entry for this problem, including a savegame.

Forgot to mention in the bugtracker, I am using the snapshot from 08/11 (the day the "duplicate items in chests" bug was fixed).

This is just a guess, but I think the problem has to do with fighting barehanded. It has been mentioned that this is supposed to play if you defeat an enemy barehanded. I have found that it does not play when fighting barehanded, and the more you fight barehanded, the more times the sound plays while you fight with a weapon.

I hope this helps find the problem. When I first played SI I did not have a soundcard so I heard none of the music or sound. Exult has given SI new life, and I would really like to enjoy the sound and music this time around.

Thanks!

Thanks, Coder Dragon, that helped a lot. The problem is that many weapons have their 'hit SFX' as #123 from weapons.dat, but that is the 'fanfare' sound. So either the wrong sound was recorded in the SFX pack we're using, or there's something different about the 'weapons.dat' file in SI that we don't understand. In any case, we'll now check for that SFX, and change it to something that sounds more like a sword-strike (#61). I just checked in the change, so it should appear in the snapshot in a day or two.
