I notice that the day/night cycles are ... odd. I can walk back and forth between two squares and the day and night will cycle back and forth. ... come to think of it, the Ultima Online engine seemed to have the same problem sometimes.
Am I missing something?
Day night cycles?

Re: Day night cycles?
It kind of makes me wonder: if Britannia is a "world" in the sense of a planet, shouldn't some locations be morning, noon, evening, and night according to timezones?
Re: Day night cycles?
Was that meant to be sarcastic?
The only reason I ask is that I can barely see items in my back when it's dark... much less so than any other Ultima, where one could still play reasonably well in the dark.

Re: Day night cycles?
I also noticed the light change between two squares. I think it is your proximity to a light source, like a wall scone or torch. But unlike a real torch, the entire world (screen) goes bright when you get into range. They would need to implement some kind of dynamic lighting in order to get it more realisitic, like a halo of light around the source.
Just my 2 cents....

Re: Day night cycles?
Exactly. You get the 'light' palette if you're in a chunk with a light-source. Not very realistic, but pretty good considering that the game was designed for 8-bit graphics.
Re: Day night cycles?
See Ultima VI for example of the "halo of light"with 8-bit graphics.
Re: Day night cycles?
I think a neat solution would be interpolating the palette from the "natural" one (day or night that it is) to the "lightsource" one. The more you get near to the lightsource, the more the palette shifts to that.
Re: Day night cycles?
or you can use illumination cheat or in silverseed the light helmet
