On the many homebrew Ultima projects going on at the moment, do any of them involve getting Underworld and Underworld 2 to run under Windows?

Personally, I'd love to see the Ultima Underworld games adapted to the Unreal Tournament engine so that everyone can enjoy them in a modern environment. Oh, well. One can dream.

Hey, that would be a nice idea. The UO engine is very customizable, actually I think this would be quite possible, although you would have to re-design the levels from scratch. Or you could write a converter, which would solve the copyright problems that arise when you re-design the levels and spread them.

But it would surely take some ages to finish such a project ;-)

It's some charm in playing the _genuine_ game as it was originally.

Charm...perhaps. For about 5 minutes. After that, the annoyance of trying to configure a 10 year old game with a wacky memory manager on a modern computer an OS becomes too much of a headache. Especially when, like me, you have to run such old software on a Mac in a PC emulator.

Yes. Not being an Unreal player or wanting to become one, I'd just rather play the actual game. I assume then there's no way to get ti running under Win 2000 at this time?

Damn...I need to upgrade priority on building my Dream Computer circa 1993...

And what is the problem with UW?
Is lives under EMM386, thus it does not use unreal mode like U7.
Why it will not work on NT's VM?

There is a remake project for the Ultima Underworlds, as well as an Underworld 3 fan project in the works. Damned if I remember the addresses for them though, lol.

UW and UW2 both run quite fine on my 98 boxes, my NT box, and my XP box just fine... in XP I have to set it to compatibility mode, and with NT it has to have assigned and protected memory, but other then that they both work just fine.

Soul Harvester: What memory settings are you using in XP? I NEVER EVER got it to work in W2k or XP.
Or what compatibility mode. Please explain very in depth.
For me and everyone else the game normally just sits there, saying "EMS allocated" and that's it.

On Win9x I also never had a problem running the game, btw.
