After installing and setting up Exult, I encounter a problem when I try to ride the horse and carriage outside of the town you start in. I've purchased the deed to the carriage, and I can board it, but as soon as I move forward the game crashes to desktop.
Any help would be appreciated.

LOL regarding the topic. It reminds me of that line from Back To The Future III. "My horse broke down... and I lost my hat."

Is this with the latest snapshot, or 1.2? Could you submit a bug report with a savegame just before you try to use the carriage? If we can duplicate the crash, we can fix it.
