Paper doll icons?

Post by Jussi »

In the Black Gate, what is the ring, which can be toggled yellow or white?
It is either above the floppy disk icon, or in NPCs on the right of heart icon.

I can't find explanation for it anywhere. Maybe these icons would be better with tooltips?

In the original this means that the party member will be protected by the other party members, if I remember correctly. Read the original's documentation.
BUT I think it's not working in Exult (because in reality U7 combat sucks and those combat settings don't matter much).

More specifically, it is supposed to set which party member will be protected by others set to the specific combat behaviour. The icon for that shows a white dot intercepting an attack at another white dot.

You should indeed set another character as a protector in combat for it to do anything. Also, there can be only one yellow circled party member. NPC's who flee in combat tend to set the circle to yellow if no one else has it. I think this sums up the original behavior, I don't know if exult does it.

The originals also had protectors for all alignment groups. And I think that the originals also had a chance of NPCs setting themselves as being protected when their life got too low, and NPCs on the same alignment group had a chance to spontaneously change to protect him/her in response.

But combat is generally over so quickly that it is hard to make sure.
