Using Mods Step by Step?

Is there a guide on how to use the sifixes and other mods? I am not sure where to start, between compiling the .uc files from and their destinations and .cfg file changes.

Step #1: download the already-compiled versions of the mods in the downloads page;
Step #2: read this: http://exult.info/docs.php#Mods%20and%20Patches.

I've downloaded the SIfixes mod and unzipped it into Serpent_Isle\mods, so I have the sifixes folder and sifixes.cfg file in the mods folder. Then I modified my Exult.cfg to include the mod tags and path to the mods folder. It doesn't seem to be working in a new game. Did I miss something here?

Anyone? I'd like to start playing with mods myself but this is causing hair loss.

If you did it right then you should have a "MODS" item beneath the "Serpent Isle" menu item in Exult's main menu. You would need to select SI fixes from that and start a new game from there.

If you don't have the mods menu item, please write down the path of your SI installation, where you put the SI fixes mod and copy/paste your exult.cfg.
(If you delete the mods tags in exult.cfg it should actually just work IF you put the SI fixes in the correct folder).

Looks like the Path entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Exult is used by all installations, so if I have a working copy and a test copy installed both will use the same folder paths for the original BG and SI. Yet the video, resolution, and difficulty settings in Exult.cfg are not respected and appear to be held over from earlier installs. I'm going to uninstall them all and retry this. Both the April and May builds did not create an Exult.cfg on first run, I had to manually create them using the Exult.example file that is created by the installation.

It is not clear to me if the mod path with the files in it should be:
C:\Program Files\Exult\Serpent_Isle\mods\sifixes\data
C:\Program Files\Exult\Serpent_Isle\mods\sifixes
C:\Program Files\Exult\Serpent_Isle\mods\ (no sifixes folder)
Or something else. The readme file says to use the "Silver Seed directory" which my integrated version of Serpent Isle does not seem to have.

"C:\Program Files\Exult\The_Black_Gate"

(default)

;Full path cannot be used.
jmsfx.flx

"C:\Program Files\Exult\Serpent_Isle"

(default)

;Full path cannot be used.
jmsisfx.flx

;2 is for better compression
2

There are no mod tags in the Exult.cfg.

Ugh, I didn't check my C:\Users\Coward\AppData\Local\Exult to see everything in there. Is that the Silver Seed directory where the mod goes?

Looks like C:\Program Files\Exult\Serpent_Isle\mods\sifixes is the right place.

Thank you to Dominus and Marzo!
