Book Size in BG

Does anyone out there know if the standard book size of 7-10 pages is hard coded into the game engine? Can it be expanded to a few hundred pages or so? Trying to add an ingame diary regarding a subquest for a mod; but the default 7 pages make it prohibitive to do so.

Books have no real limit to their size. In Exult, you can have as many pages as you want, with as much text as you can fit on those pages*; in the originals, there was a limit of 64kB for each usecode function, so you can't have more text than slightly less than that.
* Technically, you can't have more than 4GB per usecode function in Exult.
