Guardian on helium

When nobody is looking The Guardian like to inhale helium in an attempt to laugh The Avatar to death, at least thats my assumption because I about died laughing when he told me "Yes, that is the proper direction to travel in Avatar" in a voice not unlike mickey mouse.

But seriously, has anyone else had this problem? The Guardian sounds just fine in the U7 Part one intro but then he goes into helium mode ingame, I'm using Exult 1.1beta3, A sound blaster live value card, 1000 mhz AMD Athalon, and a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 on Windows XP.

well, i'm not exactly sure on this, but maybe his files are corrupted, i say it's at least worth a try to try and re-install the game

Hey that happens to me too. The first time I was kinda annoyed but now after reading your post I think it's pretty funny. My setup is very similar to yours too. The only difference is the video card and I have a Gforce 4 Ti 4600

Obviously, it's an evil ploy by Nvidia! Ok, it's not. :-)

Seriously, the problem is actually to do with the data files. The sample rate specified in some of the voc files is too high so the speech gets played too fast. Exult of course assumes the samplerate specified in the vocs is correct (a logical thing to do). In order to fix the problem we will need to hack Exult to manually specify the correct sample rates for the speech files.

Indicently earlier versions of Exult that totally ignored the samplerates in the vocs did play the Guardian speech correctly, but there were of course problems elsewhere.

I'd love to hear that. Maybe he'll say "Rest, Avatar, rest,......" like that too.
