Interface Improvements

Could it be possible that in the next version of exult the backpack items keep their spot? What I mean is that one can spend much time arranging their inventory but once a game is loaded all the stuff is set back to the horizontal inventory arrangment. It would be a tremendous improvment to the game if this where fixed, as there would be much less frustration.

A much less important thing that I have thought about is to have an option to make all the ugly ticks go away. For eg: When one opens a backpack their is of course the graphic of the pack but their is also a quite stupid tick and box thing attached to it. Most of the time I right click to close inventory windows so the ticks are quite useless and the game would be somewhat less ugly if they where taken out (like the ultima 8 inventory screens) Anyone know if it would be at all difficult to remove the ticks and boxes by editing the graphic or something?

about those "ticks". It would be easy to edit the graphic and cut that tick part off. But you wouldn't be able to distribut that graphic without infringing copyrights. So those things would need to be redrawn completely.

So the exult team arn't allowed to do a simple edit of the inventory graphics?

Think about it: As soon as they change what comes in the package of U7 they mess with things.

Besides. Oh please leave them in :\ For me the "right click closes gumps" isn't always working as it should, and then I need the tick to close things :\

Think about it: We aren't employed by either Origin or EA. The graphics are copyrighted. We may edit it for ourselves at home but we wouldn't be allowed to tell anyone or, god forbid, make copyrighted material availlable for download. See, when you edit a copyrighted graphic, it is still copyrighted.

and to reply yet even more precisely to your question:

yes the exult team is allowed to do a simple edit of the inventory graphics and so are you.

BUT the team isn't allowed to distribute the new graphic and neither is you. At best, you can distribute a patch.

Artaxerxes can your patch tool be used for this?

absolutely.

You can find it on http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=103791

I've used the same technique to create the patch for making french fonts out of the english fonts.

the 'ticks' are necessary for playing the game in the original style, because
the original gumps only closed by the use of the ticks (and, of course, the
esc-key, but that one closed them all together).

What about the items staying where they are instead of being reorganized every time the game is loaded? Can that be fixed?

I thought that was implemented some time ago, although I notice that it doesn't always work.

The reogranisation of items I have always found to be very annoying, I don't think that it always works in the current version though.

The items get reorganized every time a game is loaded. THis can be very annoying when you have just finished arranging heaps of items nicely in a ship hold or crate etc.. but as soon as one quits the game and loads it later on all the stuff gets horizontally rearranged. It would be great if this problem was cleared up in the next version.

This is something we might look at for the next version after 1.2, as it's too big a change to put in now. The tricky bit is making sure we don't mess up existing games, especially the initial games that come with BG and SI.

Well, think about it. The whole thing about items being disorganized in your bag or backpack. Look at how many things you have crammed in there. If that was in real life, I wouldn't think that everything would keep it's place... especially after fighting a huge monster.. or having an epic battle with the Banes. :P But, don't think of things being disorganized as a bug.... I'd call it 'Realistic'!
