Exult 1.2?

Okay, first let me say I've been watching Exult since it was a shapes viewer. Also, let me say Ultima 7 was the first game I bought in my post-Commodore Amiga days. The problem was, the machine was Win '95.

Now, I got U7 working, but could not reliably adjust the timing. As such, I only played the game for at most an hour. This means I never beat it, never got anywhere in it, and never played SI.

So, if I'm going to do this, I figure I'd do it right, through Exult. After some time away, I came back to find a release version (1.0) available...but still, apparently, some bugs. So I waited.

After forgetting about it, I recently came back a few days prior. From what I can tell, it's almost done, even with Ogg support! However, a few bugs remain. I've read 1.2 should kill those, and for a U7 newbie like me that doesn't know the plot at all, I'm under the assumption I should wait for 1.2

However, 1.2 has been coming 'soon' for quite some time according to the boards. So, I'm simply curious (and I know you'll hate this question) if there is any timetable on 1.2? I'd like to wait, but I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. The game I've been unable to play for 8 years is almost here...

Sorry to ask, and I don't need an exact date (though that would be nice), but do you have any idea when 1.2 is coming?

Thanks again...as I said, I've followed Exult when it was a shape viewer...then through the insistance it would NEVER provide SI support. ;) You guys have gone above and beyond...

Why so afraid of playing a "buggy" version? It won't damage your U7 datafiles. Most of the bugs reported are actually bugs from the original game usecode, which is untouched by Exult. There are only a few bugs in Exult, most of which won't prevent you from finishing the game. You can play the games from beginning to end.

Exult 1.2 is different from 1.0 in the sense that it has some new features, and fixes some bugs.

Namely, I'm afraid because I am new to this game. If a particular item is not where is should be, a conversation does not take place, a ship does not move, etc...I'll never know...go around in circles, and get frustrated.

I've waited this long, but I am itching to play lately, I'll confess. If 1.2 is coming out in a few days, or a week or so, I can wait it out. If we're looking at months, I may start with the snapshot...

That's why I asked...

Go for the snapshot.

See, there are 1.1beta# at the moment, which means there won't be an 1.2 soon. If you see something like 1.1RC2 (notice the "RC" for "Release Candidate") then 1.2 IS coming soon.

And, about the conversations not taking place, most have something to do with either usecode bugs (outside Exult scope), and about the missing items, I think it is a problem from the 1.1 series prior to beta3. I do not remember having such problems in 1.0

I'd say wait for 1.2.
It's good for your patience.

1.2 should be coming out 'real soon now'.... Actually in less than a week is the current forecast.

...and don't worry about the "in between" versions, such as 1.362584,2 ;] They might carry bugs, but unlike EA Games, this is Exult, and if you do run into a problem, no one will turn a cold shoulder and shrug, the Devs of Exult and other players will rush to your aid :D

Well, I've no problem waiting if it's less then a week. What the heck, I'll just wait for and play 1.2. :)

And thanks for the replies. I figure now even the snapshot would be fine...but if 1.2's coming that quickly, why not just wait for it...

"You have been a thorn in my side for FAR to long, Ultima 7..." ;)

Thanks again...
