Combat mechanics / stats

Does anyone know of a website or link that explains how the combat mechanics and stats work in Ultima7? I've tried searching the forums, the ultimacodex wiki, and a few other places but I am not having much luck. I figure this must exist somewhere given the age of the game but for some reason I am having difficulty finding it.
What I'm trying to figure out is how the various stats, armor and weapon damage work together. I know strength gives you the total hit points, as well as 2x strength is carrying weight but I'm not clear how dexterity and combat ability end up playing a part in combat/damage dealt. Same with relation between intelligence and max mana, if they are even related.
How do those then play into weapon damage and armor? For example, if a weapon has 5 damage and Avatar has armor that totals 10, how is that damage calculated along with combat ability? I assume there is some sort of formula that is used, likely too advanced for my simple brain to comprehend, but even a high level understanding of it would help me as my mod tends to deal with these stats via items rather than trainers. With this information I am hoping to get a semblance of balance for overpowered/underpowered items/monsters.
Does anyone know of any links that I can reference to try and better understand how all these various components work together?
Thanks!
