Ether gem and the daemon mirror

Hello,

I seem to be unable to use the ether gem to release the daemon from the daemon mirror at the Isle of Fire. When I double click on the gem, it just disappears with sound of a shattering, doesn't matter if I hold it in my right or my left hand. Or just put it on the ground and double click. It's just gone, daemon stays in mirror and the black sword stays a useless hunk of metal. What's wrong here?
