Hello everyone

I installed the latest beta 0.96 version of exult on my win98 and have specified the serpent isle dir during the installation process.
However after installing, i ran exult and clicked on "Begin New Adventure" for SI(something like that), and immediately after that exult self-exited and brought me back to windows with no error messages.

stderr.txt :
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

stdout.txt :

setting game directories to: c:\uc\serpent

This exact same problem has happened to me in all the previous versions of exult i installed, which is why i couldnt play the game at all.
What gives?

hmm, strange.
I'm not sure why that happens. Maybe it has something to do with how you set up the paths in exult.cfg.
I guess you have installed Exult in c:\uc\ultima7...
Try that:
install Exult to c:\uc\exult and set the paths in the installer accordingly (for Blackgate c:\uc\ultima7 and for Serpent Isle c:\uc\serpent).
Does this work?

I tried the above method but it still couldnt work.

It gave the same error messages.

I never changed any paths to SI in exult.cfg because it was already pointing to the correct directory of c:\uc\serpent.

I tried installing exult at c:\, c:\uc and c:\uc\exult respectively but all couldnt work too.

argh, okay, scratch that.
when i try to start a new game in SI, I get that same message as above
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

when I try to journey onwards, i am told that npc.dat is missing
now I don't remember deleting that particular file, and SI worked just fine before I installed the beta of exult... so something is wrong.

can anyone email me the SI npc.dat (it's in the gamedat dir) please, and I'll see if I can get it working again

adam.palethorpe@blueyonder.co.uk if you can help, thank you :)

gamedat is regenerated from static/initgame.dat every time you start a new game. A save game is also a packed version of gamedat.

Firstly, delete your gamedat directories. Then post you exult.cfg and the paths where you have installed the games.
