I can't seem to be able to break open chests by attacking them. This also happened in BG, but there lockpicks are easy to find. In SI however they're rare, so I'd like to be able to just hack them open. Is there anything I can do?

I've never had a problem hacking them open in either game.. You could always just either create the lockpicks, or hit ctrl+alt+m and select the box, hit delete, and it'll delete the chest but leave the contents on the ground, and hit ctrl alt m again to get out of map mode.

I also have not had any problem attacking and destroying chests

What weapon are you attacking with?

I think some chests are flagged as "unbreakable". Have you tried a variety of them?

Hey DrCode, wanted to let ya know since you were helping me before on map editing that it's finally working for me and not making the ceilings of houses disappear. I've been using the latest snapshots, so it must have been something small that was fixed to do it. Not to get off topic that is..

I was playing earlier, and noticed that some weapons dont hit hard enough to break chests, where other's can destroy them on one shot. And like DrCode said, some are set to not break at all but I've only found one of those so far.

In BG I used the hoe of destruction and then the daemon sword. and I tried to hack open chests which I have been able to attack and open in other times i've played the game. In SI I've been using a sword or a two-handed hammer, and in this game I've also tried opening chests that i've been able to open with force before (like those in the town hall or in the armour's shop). Still no luck, but i'll try your suggetions. thanks

i tried using ctrl+alt+m and then deleting the chest to get the contents, but although i am in map editor mode i hit delete and nothing happens. how can i make lockpicks?
