Exult for Pagan? Ultima8

Sorry to ask but I did not see this question adressed in the FAQ or anywhere else. Can exult run Pagan? Will there be an exult for Pagan? Do you have any hints on getting it to run without Exult? (DosBox is just not getting it done)

You have to look closer.
http://exult.info/faq.php#other_ultimas and the following question...

Last official Dosbox ran U8 with intro and music just fine for me.

Isn't answer 1.7 outdated now? Or is it meant to be a joke?

It's a bit outdated, yes :-)

I play Ultima8 and other games on a virtual machine created on "Virtual PC" (Microsoft), where I installed Dos 7.1

Everything works smoothly. After all it's a real virtual 80x86 machine, pure hardware emulation, where instead DosBox emulates the...uhm.."software layer" of Dos, so it's subject to need individual fiddlings for each particular program it must run.

Try it.

There is one in progress called Pentagram, and it's located here:

Is there still work done on Pentragram? I had really high hopes for that, not only do I like U8 a lot, it would perhaps also run Crusader (even with Vogon help I can't manage to play that, although I once could in VPC :/ )

Yes, there is :-)

Razor: The website looks a bit old and dated but behind the scenes there is actual work done on pentagram. We even might have a newer web-appearance one fine day, you never know.

With the last official release of Dosbox, Crusader ran on it, though sometimes a bit jerky and quite slow on my P4-2.66.

I can confirm that work is still in progress on Pentagram. I had first downloaded it last year. Then I downloaded it again a few months ago. The progress left me with my mouth wide open for a few minutes.

I keep forgetting to ask this, but is the Pentagram Team going to remove the "no monsters attack you while you have a gump open" exploit?

Well, currently monsters don't attack you at all. Ever. So, um, we'll see when we get there :-)

It sounds like something that might become an option, though.

Why am I remembering having monsters attack me while I have my inventory open then?

Just checked with the original: monsters do indeed attack you if you have your inventory open.

Maybe we were confusing it with monsters not attacking while in conversation?

I do remember hearing that monsters don't attack you if you have your backpack open, but I'm not sure if this was a U8 or U9 problem. U8 monsters always attacked me when I had my inventory open.

If it indeed is a U8 problem, then it may be something to do with the patch. Have you checked whether the situation is the same in the patched and unpatched versions?

I think they still did in the patched version. That's the only one I can really remember playing.

Well, that is to say that's the one I've finished u8 with the most.

Monsters wouldn't attack with your inventory open in Ultima 9

Pentagram Map & Shapes Viewer

By the way, speaking of Pentagram... where did the Pentagram Experimental Map & Shapes Viewer go? Is it still available for download? I looked on the Exult download page, the Exult project files page, the Pentagram project files page, and I couldn't find it.

Ah, yes, that link seems to have vanished. I added it to the pentagram download page.

how about installing it on DosBox anew? Btw. Dosbox has its own good forum at http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewforum.php?f=33. No need to reopen an ancient thread here :)
