This may simply be a result of the soundcard I'm using, but on my computer the
volume of the FX and the music are way out of synch, it's downright painful to
the eardrums to listen to it on headphones.
Could you implement a volume control for both FX and Music in a future release?
It would be very helpful indeed.

There already is.

It's based on your SYSTEM volume properties. The sound effects volume is controlled by the WAVE channel and the musis is controlled by the MIDI channel. If you want to turn the music down, open up volume properties (usually the speaker icon in your system tray) and slide MIDI down.
