Can't get whistle from Trellek

OK, I got the letter to stop Ben the logger from cutting down silverleaf trees, talked to Ben, went back to the Emps, talked to the leader (she is happy with the signed doc), then to Trellek's wife. She changes her mind and won't let Trellek join the party. However when I talk to Trellek, he is supposed to give me the whistle. However, there is never any option to get the whistle, and I'm stuck! Any ideas. I have savegames both before and after I talk to the Emps. I can't talk to the wisps yet...

I remember once missing one of the options when replaying, it got solved by talking to other people whom I forgot back then.
Did you learn about the wisps with the gipsies in Minoc and later with Taylor in the Abbey in Yew?

I'ved talked to the gipsies, but I'm not sure about Taylor (although I did go to the abbey). I'll load up my game before talking to emp leader, and tlak to the other people, and see if that help. Thanks.

You need a reason to ask Trellic for the whistle. I forgot how to obtain that 'reason' long ago - thus I now end up skipping the whole wisp thing out on the basis that you don't actaully need to do it to finish the game. :/

I think you need to visit the abandoned house with the wisps to have a reason to ask for the whistle.

I'll copy-paste what I figured out about this in an earlier thread. ("Emp problem?" from november 2003)
Ok, here are the results of my research:
Talking to the gypsy fortune teller will set flag 0x100.
If you have flag 0x100 set while talking to Taylor about the fauna, he will give the 'wisps' option. Asking about 'wisps' will set flag 0x138.
After you obtained Salamon's permission and talk to Saralek about this, flag 0x158 is set. If flag 0x138 is set at that point, you can tell her that you wanted Trellek to join to talk to the wisps. At that point flag 0x155 is set.
Finally, if flags 0x138, 0x155 and 0x158 are set and 0x156 is unset you can talk to Trellek about "Saralek's idea", which will produce the whistle and set flag 0x156.
I think the critical point where this can 'break' is if you talk to Saralek about Salamon's permission without having flag 0x138 set, since you can select this conversation path once. (The option is only given is flag 0x158 is unset, and flag 0x158 is set as soon as you select the option.)
