Hey guys, just a curious musing. Some high-quality games that are coming out NEW these days are out for around $20 (Age of Mythology, for example). I'm wondering why the lowest price I can find online for Ultima IX is $20, when the game has been out for 5 years already.

Because it's NOT a common find, it's NOT produced anymore, and it's the end of the series. I once saw Ultima IX's price go as far as $500 US Dlls on eBay.

They released a ton of UIX cds (un-original, of course) with one of the latest releases of UO.

Bah. Bought Ultima IX, and it doesn't even install in my PC. Well, I should have guessed it, for 4.50 bucks...

I thought most new games were $40-$50. I think that's around what I paid for U9 (dragon edition) when it came out. Is it really worth $500 now?

Two or three years ago, I was in an auction for a Dragon Edition, which began at $10, and I bid up to $80, and once it got past that, I preferred not to bid, just watch. It went over $500.

looks a good deal cheaper than that, but i suppose these are not dragon editions. or are they? i'm not really sure.

The problem was my CD/DVD-RW drive. I copied the CD to a CDR. Now I can install it.

And I must say I was expecting to run it flwlessly in my P4 2,8GHz 512MB DDR RAM, Radeon Mobility 9000 64MB notebook... That's not exactly the case, but...

I got my Dragon Edition for just some 46 dollars last December. Back then there was an influx of DEs in eBay, some 5-6 complete packages were sold within a month.

500 dollars is WAY too much. I've seem mint copies of DE still in shrinkwrap go for only about 100 dollars. This must have been a case of two relatively new Ultima collectors with no idea of the current market value with too little patience and too much money spotting the same item... But then again, I've heard that a complete copy of Vic20's Ultima: Escape from Mt. Drash once sold for over 3600 USD.

The Dragon Edition is not worth $500, or even $100. Most go for much, much less than that.

Ultima IX is coming packaged with Ultima Online, the 7th Anniversary Edition. I got a copy of it for just under $20 at CompUSA. You can probably get it for a few dollars less somewhere online.

Of course, that version doesn't come with all the perks of the dragon addition. Don't expect it to have a manual or anything.

You may even be able to get first hand copies of 7th Anniversary still, but second hand you wouldn't need to pay for the subscription.
