There's the "island patch" on our SourceForge site, although it isn't finished yet.

I started a small project before i tackle a larger one but it is on hold untill you can configure gumps without having to change and recompile the source code.

You should be able to change the graphics at least, right now. The person at the Fashionable Avatar did that. But yeah it would be interesting to have an XML-type UI definition.

You should assume that even if we put the dimensions and locations of the gump pieces in a data file, the gumps will still have to have the same components and uses. In other words,if you want more than cosmetic changes, you will have to work on the engine itself.

but all that is needed to be able to make a semi-decent RPG using exult studio is the ability to use containers. i would have my little mini-world up and running but its kinda hard to play when you can only carry things in your hands.
Could we at least know if someone from the exult staff is gonna be working on this issue in the near future if at all?

I'm planning for ages now to get somewhere with Xultima4, an U4 clone made with U7-Graphics, driven by the Exult engine...

I see. You can already mark an object as a container (in the shape-info dialog), so we just need to make the association between a container and its gump something that's stored in a file, along with the positions.
