SI-french: new website

To all users of Exult interested in playing Serpent Isle in French:

Our home page (thanks wjp!) is now hosted on Sourceforge! We hope you'll enjoy the new look. The screenshot section is empty for now and the website is mostly in English.
The files to download are currently for Windows and Linux and they reflect what is found on the files section of our Sourceforge project page.

Coming soon will be the ability to leave comment (or maybe a forum if requested) and we are looking at enabling a collaborative effort to proofread Serpent Isle to speed up the process and get the community involved.

In the meantime, all comments should be posted here or send to me by email at artaxerxes at users.sf.net.

Thank you,

Artaxerxes
SI-french co-lead

On a side note, it'd be nice to see the forum better integrated into the rest of the webpage, but I assume you're working on that. Plus there are a few fairly glaring grammatical errors. Looks good though.

I really wonder why it is mostly in english. Though I'd really like english description of all the tools and how-tos you developed/written/found during the course of translating, I also think the target user-base is french speaking :-)
As always, a great project and I'm happy for you that it went so well and (I really think so) quite fast!

If it's to be a general place for translations, why is it called si-french?

thanks for the comment! Not being natively english-speaking, I'm still working on my grammar. I'll try to be more careful when editing the site in the future. The forum section comes from a tiny package (I didn't want to use something as big as phorum, with a MySQL db required and all), but I still have to integrate it more (especially wrt the missing navbar). To return to the main site, you could always click on the central graphic at the top of the page.

dominus:
to be quite honest, I'm quite fed-up of the holier-than-you french attitude that forces down the french language on other people. IMHO, having the site only in french would turn away people who don't speak french perfectly but would like to give it a try nonetheless. My stance is: let's be open-minded and provide both french and english to reach a wider odience.
The site is designed to offer content in french (so far only the navbar) if your browser's settings indicate that's your prefered language. Then you could also choose to force either language using the "En Fr" link in the navbar.
I'll have to add more pages to link to the other tools I've made and I'm not quite finished the whole site yet (as usual). I'll keep you posted on the progress.
One point I wanted to mention as well. I've always felt kinda bad about posting updates about SI-french in this forum. It is sorta exult-related (since you need exult to use the patches) but it's really gray area. Now with our own forum and all that, I'll be able to keep those posts in here to a minimum.

SB-X:
In the course of translating, we've acquired a certain understanding of the structure of usecode, discovered a lot of caveats and found work-arounds that are quite useful. We've also developed tools to ease the translation and we thought it would be best to share all that information to everyone else. Our primary focus has always been to translate Serpent Isle in french, but most of the techniques we've found can be used for other languages. By posting all that information on our site, we hope we can nurture a desire for people to translate Serpent Isle in their own language as well. We've already been contacted by 2 italian teams and we hope more would like to get involved.
We could have called it SI-babel and who knows, maybe it will be one day.

Thanks to all for your comments!

When I click on the forum link in the navbar I get an error before being redirected to the forum.

For some reason, there seems to be a small error in this Exult forum page too... I'm seeing some HTML when I scroll right down to the bottom.

Though when ever there is a major development in SI-French I'm sure everyone here wants to hear about it.

The error on the Exult forum appears to have gone on its own. The one on the SI-French forum, though, is still there.
