Main menu shows sound disabled, but it's working?

I installed Exult using the method described in section 2.3 of the documentation, having copied the BG and SI trees from the 'Collection' CD. I then downloaded and installed the .OGG digital sound packs and installed as per the documentation (not the README in the .ZIPs as the doc warns you not to).

I've ran BG, went into the Audio settings and selected 'Digital' and get lovely digital sounds and music. Yet on the Exult opening menu both sound icons are marked with an 'X' which I presume is not sound.

Does this matter? What haven't I done?

The icons represent sound effects capability. The OGGs are for music. You need to get the the SFX packs too.

Ah right, thanks .. I probably would've gone hunting if it weren't for the amient sounds in the OGG packs, it's so long since I played this game I hadn't missed the other spot effects.

Since the 'effects' setting in the Audio setup is 'enabled' that too made me think all was well.

I downloaded and installed the MT-32 versions and now realise how much sound I was missing!

God I'm loving playing U7 again, it's 10 years since I played these games.
