Thanks to Exult Team + OT Questions

First of all, I'd like to thank the Exult Team for making such a great mod for U7 (probably the best single-player game in history). I'm starting to think that the more we progress in computer technology, the less we're able to make really great, outstanding single-player experiences as Origin did with their Ultima and Wing Commander series. I guess nowadays game developers are more focused on the multiplayer aspects of their games, but I still think they're going in the wrong direction.

We need more games that have the immersiveness, interactivity, and single-player scope as U7 did, but combine that with our more modern technology of today. The Elder Scrolls series, Morrowind in particular, is a good example more game developers should follow. But for all Morrowind's strengths, such as beautiful graphics, a huge gameworld, unique NPCs, it still didn't captivate (in my opinion) the way U7 did. It didn't have NPCs that actually *did* something (eat, sleep, cook, etc.), other than stand around all day. The game world was huge, but rather empty. The combat turned dull rather quickly, and the monster AI was, frankly, retarded, and don't even get me started on friendly NPC AI. I'm hoping they learn from Morrowind's mistakes in TES 4: Oblivion.

Anyway, I'm sorry about rambling on about that. If you're still reading (and not snoring) I have a couple Qs (OT):

Has there been any update in the Exult 3D project?

I heard there was a similar mod engine being made for U8. Any timeframe of when an official release will be out? And will there be support for the Crusader games?

Thanks for any info, and thanks again to the Exult Team!

From
http://exult.info/faq.php#other_ultimas
you will get to
http://exult.info/faq.php#pentagram
which leads you to
http://pentagram.sf.net
and in their FAQ you will find besides
http://pentagram.sourceforge.net/faq.ph ... t_crusader
also
http://pentagram.sourceforge.net/faq.php#pent_is_2
which answers your question :)
Sorry for the many links, couldn't resist :) but the last one is the one that you need to read.
Though the "mod engine" question might imply you mean something else. AFAIK there is a mod being made for one of the mod-engines like Neverwinter Nights but I don't have a link to that.

The word "mod" goes for module or modification, buddy. Exult is not a mod, but an engine.

Appreciate the info, Dominus.

Gradilla Dragon, I realize my use of the word "mod" may differ from yours, but I mean the same thing. Exult is a modification to the original Ultima 7 game. Yes, it's an engine, but it's an engine that modifies U7.

And has anyone heard of any progress being made with the UO "single-player" project?

Thanks,

-Isendir

While there has been no official Pentagram release, you can indeed play Ultima 8 from start to finish using Pentagram.

I really beg to differ. Exult is not a modification of the original U7. Exult does not modify the original game at all. Exult is an engine that uses (not modifies) the original files.
For pentagram the same holds true.

Man, this went from a "praising the Exult Team" thread into a special ed class debate.

Dominus, all I'm saying is that Exult modifies my computer to be able to run U7 - that's all I'm talkin' 'bout here, Willis.

Peace - and once again, I appreciate the efforts of the people on the Exult Team, and those working on the Pentagram project.

Hahaha, Exult doesn't do that either :)

alright, give the man a break. If he wants to call it a mod, let him call it a mod, even though the rest of us agree it's not.

Isendir: I'm sure the Exult team appreciate your praises. If you have any other questions, feel free to post.
