Request for help with an UW2 remake

Hi, I got pointed here by Withstand the Fury Dragon, on the RPGDot forums.
I posted a request there for help with a slightly unusual UW2 remake: unusual in that it will end up being more crap and limited than the original game. I'm converting UW2 to isometric, you see.
So I posted asking if anyone had any ideas, graphics, or other stuff that might help, and they pointed me here.
Click to read my original RPGDot forum post, and the replies. I've not pasted the post here, since most people can click a link, and it is kinda lengthy.
As I stressed on the RPGDot forums, this is a gift for someone, so I'd rather it weren't talked about too publically: forums is fine, but try to keep it below the Google horizon
Is there anything in Exult that might be useful in this endeavour, and that I would be permitted to use it in this project?
One of the biggies is character sprites. UW2 had them displayed head-on, and they really need to be in 30-degree isometric, otherwise they'll look like they're tipped forward 30 degrees from the vertical, which just looks totally weird.
I know there was an UW2 conversion that had 3D characters in, and I was wondering if it'd be OK to use rendered isometric projections of those. With credits, of course. Or perhaps models have been done for Exult-3D?
I'd also really appreciate suggestions and advice, but I'm really not sure if this is the correct place to discuss it (if "potential reuse of some Exult elements" isn't on-topic enough, please do feel free to delete this post .
This forum's already helped me a little, by the way: from reading the discussions here about parsing in the earlier ultimat to Exult, I see that I should probably convert everything from UW2's LZ-'77 format to an easily parsable text format (preferably an accepted standard) as an interim step, then convert to the engine I'm using. That way, the work'll be more useful to future UW2 converters.
So, thanks for that, even if there's nothing else you can give me
