banquet in Monitor

During the knighthood banquet, everyone starts to accuse each other of being a spy. When the fighting begins everyone just runs at avatar and begins attacking him. This will continue forever if I let it. What do I do?

I've always found that the banquet was really buggy even in the original
game. There were several times where the guy accused of being a spy
was -killed-, and I was unable to progress in the game.

I thought that maybe I could wait it out, but noone ever dies, and I cant attack anyone back, the game makes me stay in the seat

I'd guess your alignment got set to 'evil', somehow.

Could we hard-code the Avatar's (and party members') alignment to good?
OTOH, this would be fixing the symptom, not the cause of the problem :/

How do you find out what the alignment is

wjp: Yes, I'm thinking of doing that. I don't think the original U7 ever sets the Avatar's alignment to anything other than 'good', so it should be safe. (I'm wondering if I did something dumb and set it in the 'theft()' routine. Think I'll check that.)

Wouldn't the hard coding of GOOD alignment prevent the good functioning of the stealing mechanism?

If the setting of evil alignment causes everyone to attack you, then I
don't think it's involved in the stealing mechanism. Your party doesn't
up and attack you when you steal a jam bun.

What about when a party member is charmed? Does that tinker with the alignment?

Not sure about 'charmed'. And I'd bet we don't handle it correctly. I think it's supposed to make you attack NPC's that have your alignment, so you're attacking your 'friends'.
And yes, stealing doesn't change your alignment.

IIRC "charm" means alignment change, and not more.
Let's look in usecode for details.

I was still wondering if anyone knows how to stop this from happening.(first message)

I had a bug with the Monitor banquet as well, though a slightly different one. Whenever I attended my knighthood banquet, the pikeman attending the listfield would disappear - making it impossible to train. Restarting the game did not improve this, so I "saved" him by dragging him on top of the roof of the banquet hall, dragging him back afterwards. Cursed teleportation storms
That worked, but Caladin seems to be gone to never-neverland instead. The cheat menu says he's somewhere around 4000.4000.0 (Outside of the map, IIRC). I don't need him anymore, plotwise, now that I can train. It's not exactly a plot stopper, but being not able to train can be quite annoying. I don't know if i've got a savegame before the banquet, but I'll have a look.

The disappearing pikeman happened in the original as well, unfortunately.

Strange. The pikeman who runs the List Field is created by an egg that's by the desk. He should get recreated automatically if you walk a screenful or so away and then come back.

In the original, the pikeman -could- come back if you walked away for a good distance and came back. There was no guarantee of it, however, and in one game of Serpent Isle, he vanished after I finished the Knighthood test and never came back. I had to train in Silver Seed! Gack.

As I said, training works now, however Caladin is inaccessable. Too bad, he was my favourite trainer. But hey, I have Luther and Shazzana, so what.
