To access these, you have to start Exult Studio from within Exult. But you'd know that if you had read the docs :-)

Yeah, but that is not the whole file. Look for that section in your file, delete it and paste this section in its place.

I'm assuming you do have SI installed at c:\uc\serpent and u7 at c:\uc\ultima7. If BOTH of these paths are not correct, I don't think Exult will start.

Windows 98

problem found. The connection between Exult Studio and Exult doesn't work really good in Windows 9x. I should mention that in the Docs.
Or I could be mistaken and the problem is only with SI but I doubt it.

Ok, I didn't really understand the question the first time.

Vasculio, have you tried this with Exult open, an item selected, and Exult in map editing mode?

Start a game in SI or BG with Exult and press alt-ctrl-M. Left click on an NPC. Now check the Edit menu in Exult Studio.

I can go into map editing. I still can't transfer anything from the Studio to the game.

yup, that's it then. ES doesn't work on Windows 9x (95,98,98SE, ME) anymore.

Windows 98 is ancient anyway... If your computer is really old, and not up to running XP, at least try to get hold of a Windows 2000 License...

Definitely switch to Win2000 if you can - it's far better than '98 (more stable amongst other things). You should be able to find a copy with license on Ebay for not too much.

Linux is not that hard to get and quite cheap as well. A lot of magazines are carryig a distro nowadays. And linux should be the OS in which Exult and Studio work the best together :)

And there are distros you can even download from the internet, if you can handle the huge file size (such as Topologilinux, for example: http://topologi-linux.sourceforge.net/).
