nope he wasn't married in U7. He was married before that and you meet his wife in SI...

Yeah, as the story goes, in U1 he was the king of a one of the Kingdoms and had a wife, but he followed the call of Lord British soon thereafter, leaving his kingdom and wife behind. Soon after that, the other kingdoms disappeared, Shamino's being one of them. Then in Serpent Isle, it catches you up on what happened, as Serpent Isle was formerly Shamino's kingdom.
what i wondered was whether you were able to find his wife's corpse and put it back in the coffin from which it was stolen, cuz there are various parts in Shamino's castle where her ghost appears and berates Shamino, one of those times talking about how the goblins came and stole her corpse from the coffin in the chapel.

I've often wondered that if Shamino was king of Serpent Isle...
Why does it seem like he knows absolutely nothing about the island?
And why doesn't he know anything about the whole order/chaos deal?

If SI changes as much over the years as Britannia does, then I don't
blame him.

SI has truly changed. I just looked at the U1 maps and was not able to find out which of the 4 islands was his. And then, its a matter of time, I think between U1 and SI almost a millenia has passed and he most probably thought this land gone, so he went on with his own life.
And the Order/Chaos deal was part of the Ophidians, who lived there way before him. Maybe he was never truly interrested in the ancient ways.

Geography isn't really what I meant. It was the Ophidians.
Why do you say that they lived there well before Shamino and the rest? The names are the same... Skullcrusher, Spinebreaker, Gorlab, Mountains of Freedom in both games.
The Lands of Danger and Despair are the ones that Shamino's castle was located on... it's almost identical to SI.

Then it'd make more sense that the Ophidians came after Shamino, actually.

They did come after Shamino. With one king missing and the other one gone balmy and murdering everyone who went into his castle, the people wound up very hopeless until the Serpents intervened. That's where the Ophidian culture came from. Since it all happened after Shamino was exiled by the defeat of Mondain seperating the four lands, he knew nothing about what had happened and who and what the Ophidians were.
It's all in the books ingame in the old Ophidian ruins if you read them.

While reading this thread it got me to thinking about U1, and if the avatar went back in time and smashed the gem, how does every1 remember him. The whole game except the gem shattering would be changed. I mean what's the deal?

btw why they do not another ultima with the land of dark unknow and the land of the feudal lord. Just a though. BTW i check the map of the land of danger and despair. What have change
1.No Monitor
2.the village of gorlab exist
3.Moonshade is less near the monk isle
4.The monk isle have change radically
5.Skullcrusher and spinebreaker have move much more to the north
6.There seem to have a village where the goblin encampement actually is
7.The Mountain of freedom is less bigger than in SI
8.Claw,The isle of the phoenix and The mad mage isle have change radically. I.e. the mad mage was only a moutain in Ultima I map
Etc.

perhaps everyone remembered the havoc caused, but with the avatar killing mondain, it all disappeared and went back to good. who knows? at the end of ultima 1 LB is thanking you for it. maybe he just told everyone cuz he's on top of things in some strange way.

There's so many different ways to think of time, quantum leap type stuff, H G Wells way of thinking, and many others. As you said darksheer who knows.

We are all sad for Shamino's primitive, unsuccessful brain transplant.
He couldn't remember a thing ever since!

As an aside, what exactly is the trigger for Beatrix to later pop in, forgive Shamino, and heal him? I know she does this - sometimes - if he subsequently ends up near death, but it didn't always happen.

I found that Beatrice _always_ appeared for me if Shamino got mauled while fighting Vasculio. If I wanted to see her I'd set up the fight so he got hurt. But what other factors might make her appear at other points I don't know.

IMO, the best wife for Shamino would be Jaana, hands down. Aside from Jaana being a bit more light-hearted, and being of the opposite sex, they have almost everything in common. Besides that, it's a given that his relationship with Amber will crash and burn (she probably dumped him while he was on SI.) And Lord Heather is uglier than a hog's ass with cancerous tumors, pretends Rudyom doesn't exist (he said Natassia was the only person in Cove without a lover, but Rudyom doesn't seem to have one, either. I know!!! Natassia and Rudyom can hok up!!! j/k) and is too interested in politics and being a civilized mayor to care enough about nature to be a good match for Jaana.

Now that he's a brainer again, Rudyom will attract Nastassia with his intellect. Perhaps some beauty spell would help too.

Just in case anyone is interested - a book in the King of the White Dragon's castle states that Shamino and Beatrix (the Kings daughter) were never actually married. Shamino disapeared before the wedding - and the King promptly went mad afterwards... gruesome stuff....

I reckon Nastassia should marry that lonely Cyclops near Cove. I remember in the original, it would ALWAYS be there whenever you went off screen then back near it again. was one of a few spots where the monster constantly spawned. plus it always dropped two gold nuggets, so I farmed gold to buy a ship with
But I felt sorry for the poor bugger.

Although Nasstassia is anything but shallow, I find it hard to imagin her hook'n it up with a giant Cyclops who could crush her like a paperdoll. One thing I noticed was Rudyom was not mentioned in the Tale spun by the bard in The Emerald. He was insane but was also neglected, he should have been at least mentioned as 'not having anyone and who would want him' or something like that. He, after all, was once a brilliant man and was again when the Avatar distroyed the generator. He was elderly, but the only guy in town for poor Nastassia after the Avatar left.
Rudyom: "Yer... not as smart as Stewert- but-yer.. the only girl in town"
Nastassia: "Take yer stinky paws off me, you dirty old man!

No, just minor little plotholes and inconsistancies list. It's not something the Exult team is looking into.
Here's all the legitimate plotholes so far. A '--' will indicate a story plothole, while a '*' will indicate it has much to do with programming.
--How is it that the Avatar has an up-to-date map of Britannia upon his arrival in Trisnic? A lot has changed after 200 years.
--How is it that the Avatar's pocketwatch is still working after 200 years in Shamino's hands? I'd think he'd be lucky if Julia was able to keep it in working condition after 300 years... Did someone have a spell of longevity/extended shelf-life cast on it, or something..?
--Howcome swamp boots protect you from poison in the swamps when it was stated in the U4 instruction booklet that the poison is due to toxic vapors arising from the marsh? For that matter, how can you avoid it with a carpet, even?
*Howcome Jaana has just as much trouble casting magic even after you fix the Ether?
--Why does Geoffrey say he's too busy to go adventuring with you when all he does is train on his dummy? Can't he get the same excorsize going with you? Is he just BSing you? It's not like LB actually needs HIM for a bodyguard, anyway (he IS mortal, afterall...:\)
--Does anyone else find it unusual that among all of the Avatar's companions he ever had, the two that would have made the best couple both fall in love with someone else? Did RG intentionally do this to make people shut up?
--What ever happened to Capt. Johne?
--(U6 question) What the hell ever happened to Toshi?!
*Zelda talks about finding a book about the Avatar's adventures while cleaning out the Lycaeum basement. Yet in U7BG, there is no basement.
*What is the purpose of that set of pillars & roof north of Skara Brae with the hole in the middle of the roof? I never found any purpose to it aside from getting struck by lightning.
--Why does Natassia look just like Katrina did in U6?!
--In Cove, Lord Heather says that Natassia is the only person without a lover. However, there is no evidence that Rudyom has a lover, either....
--Though he is like this somewhat in U6 also, why is it that Geoffrey acts like he's on lithium compared to how he acts in Ultimas 4 and 5? (those who have played U4 and 5 know what I'm talking about.)
--Why does Shamino not find the Ether problem annoying as well (as the moongate problem), seeing as how he's a Ranger/magic-user, and all?
--What ever happened to Iolo having magical powers? The way he talks and acts in BG and SI, you would think he didn't have so much as a hint of magic.
*How did Geoffrey get that big scar on his face? And how come it mysteriously disappears in UW2 and Ultima Ascension?
*How come Dupre suddenly looks like a Chuck Norris wannabe in U7BG, looking to be close to 60, yet in U7SI, he looks younger than Shamino, and in Ascension, he looks about 25?!?!
--Trinsic has always had some of the best armories in Britannia due to catering to Paladins. Yet in U7, Trinsic sells some of the cheapest crap around. Why is this?
--Does anyone else find it rediculous that LB, when you arrive, has just made the POSSIBLE connection between Nystul's and Rudyom's insanity, whereas Geoffrey, his captain of the guard with no knowledge (nor ability) of magic whatsoever, has already figured out that this problem is plaguing all the mages. Is Geoffrey actually smarter than LB, or is he just making a generalization on mages, being a fighter, and all? (fighters don't like magic)
--How did Geoffrey get that big scar on his face? And how come it mysteriously disappears in UW2 and Ultima Ascension?
*How come Dupre suddenly looks like a Chuck Norris wannabe in U7BG, looking to be close to 60, yet in U7SI, he looks younger than Shamino, and in Ascension, he looks about 25?!?!
*The Ferryman is evidently the only way onto Skara Brae, yet it *is* possible to land the magic carpet on the island! (it may have been overlooked, or it could be it was left there for a secret 'cheat'.)
*If you follow the instructions for viewing the Codex, why can't you view the Codex?
--Why do you need a whistle to communicate with wisps in BG? You never needed such things in Ultimas 6 and UW2....
--Why is Sin'Vraal never mentioned in Vesper?

--What ever happened to Capt. Johne?

These are easily explained by the fact that not -everyone- is remembered
over the years by history. @!#$ happens.

And Vesper disappeared from Britannia for many, many years. Sin'Vraal never lived in Vesper, he lived there while Vesper was gone.
