Where's the hound?

Hi there!

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm just doing something wrong. I'm playing Serpent Isle, and I'm in the northern forest area. The guy from Pagan just gave me a hound whistle for returning his orb.

Whenever I blow the whistle, one of my companions tells me that the dog isn't coming, and that I should go to a more open space where the sound will travel... but I've been everywhere I can think of and used the whistle with the same result... is there a special location to blow the whistle?

Also, the Everlasting Goblet from Furnace is labeled "bottle" for me... was it like that in the original? I can't remember... it's been many years since I last played the game... ;)

I'm using the latest snapshot and a WinXP machine.

Thanks for the great work you guys are putting in... as many have said, I wish that my programming skills were more up to scratch so I could help out with the coding rather than just whinge about bugs... ;)

I'm pretty sure the goblet was 'goblet' or possibly 'Goblet'. I know
it wasn't bottle. Try using the hound whistle up north near Shamino's
castle.

Absolutely the same goes for me. You guys are fantastic!

Speaking of which, what is the food level increase of the goblet? I think it was 25 in the original, but now it seems that the party will never be satisfied from it... I have to click and click... :(
Could you please make the F key work with the "bottle", as well as increase its efficiency?

Another suggestion - Does the spectral orb do anything? If not, wasn't it supposed to lead the hound to Mortegro?
I have no idea how difficult this is to code, so don't be angry if it is too difficult to do. Just an idea of mine.

Anyway, Merry christmas and a happy new year (a bit late, i know)

If the F key doesn't work with the goblet, then yeah, please add that,
as the original did that. I do remember the goblet taking forever
to manually feed them before too, though. Is it worse now?

Goblet and page-flipping

I think it is worse, but I'm not sure about that. It's not logical anyway, since it is an ENDLESS amount of liquid food, that they shouldn't drink until they're satisfied. At least you could leave the cursor hovering over the party member and press the F key.

Another thing that was in the original, and that I'm sure of:

When the spellbook was opened, you could flip pages swiftly by pressing the number of the spell circle. Since time isn't frozen in Exult when a container is open (a feature I am not that happy about) the page-flipping option is vital for efficient combat spell casting. Please bring it back!

Was it intentional to have time not frozen when a container is open?

That came in really handy in the original game - it'll take some getting used to if that isn't going to be changed back in Exult.

the hound can be called in to any place of serpent isle, only the sound must travel. i used it in gwanis territory, monitor, furnace, a island!

Yes, although I never really understood why.

Not freezing time on opening a bag is U8 feature, not U7.

The hound can be summoned anywhere in the open space, and not only. Skullcrusher is fine, for instance.

The golblet is "everlasting goblet" in the original, and the food level increase is tiny - you must click and click.

He was talking about Exult.

Spellbook

It's awful. By the time i've found the spell, the monster was standing within melee range without being able to attack me. Tapping C is sufficient. That makes spellcasting even less useful than in the original.

Does that mean that the exult team plans to include other Ultima 8 features like jumping? Couldn't you guys make the time-freezing container optional instead?

Yeah i've noticed that, please add that (if it's not already added in .96 since i havent installed it yet) it would also be cool if you could walk over dead animals, monsters, ect easier. I was sluaghtering lord british's castle today, add found out how hard it was to walk through the mounds of dead bodies (i can only imagine how that sounds).

So I'm experiencing a bug then? I've blown that whistle in every open space I can find... near Shamino's castle, on the road, near monitor, in grassy fields etc... but I still get the message "the hound isn't coming - use the whistle in an open space." Or something like that... ;)

Does anyone know is there is a way around this so I can continue?

Thanks...

Well... I tried. But it came up with an error message about uploading the save. So now there's a bug report, and no save file. :(

Should I try again, or just sent the file to you?

As for freezing time: It's something we'll probably change eventually.

Found and fixed the hound bug, which I caused when fixing another bug around Beta-release time (story of my life).
