Struggling in Moonshade!

Hiya,

I'm playing Serpent Isle, and have encountered a few problems. I'm using a recently snapshot, so I guess someone may be interested.

Firstly, Dupre failed to turn up. He's currently hanging out at the rather intresting co-ords of 4080,4080, which is unreachable. I haven't managed to persuade him to join the party at all, while messing with the cheat screen.

Secondly, the automaton that's supposed to come give me a scroll so I can communicate with his master hasn't appeared. This triggers Flindo into getting me into the meeting with the MageLord. So now I'm jammed.

Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, do you have any workarounds?

Uh-oh... that's the delete-a-character coordinates....

When did you lose Dupre?

I didn't loose him, he just never showed up in Monitor, after talking to Marsten. At the time, I was misremembering the plot, and thought he joined the party in Fawn, otherwise I'd have restarted.

I went from Monitor -> Silver Seed -> Fawn, so I didn't want to restart
by the time I figured out he wasn't joining. :)

[As the automaton, I found him, jammed inside one of the buildings, looks
like his pathfinding went a little nuts.]

Yes, he should have shown up right after you talked to Marsten in the catacombs. This sounds like the same bug as the 'hound' problem, and it's also messing up the automaton. It's fixed in the current snapshot, but that doesn't help your game.

I don't think the 'cheat' screen currently lets you get an NPC back into your party. I'll see if I can make that work in the next day or two.

Hi,

Thanks for the speedy response, DrCode!

I did suffer the Hound problem (my initial snapshot was 02-01-02), but upgrading to the latest actually fixed it without a restart (which surprised me, as I thought usecode fixes required a restart always).

I haven't encountered any problems from a missing Dupre yet, but I'm only as far as the Northern Ice, and I've just slain the dragon for blood, so I haven't encountered the banes yet. I find that Shamino tends to take the role of Dupre when required (for the trial in fawn, for example).

Thanks again for the work,

Ashp/Twilight Dragon.

Okay... I think there's a way to get Dupre back, using cheat menu quite a bit. First of all, you need his NPC #, which I can't remember. I'll call it 'n'. It might just be 1; maybe someone else here has it.

Anyway:

a. Use F2 to bring up the cheat screen.
b. Hit 'N', then the npc # to bring up Dupre's screen.
c. Bring up his business/activity schedule.
d. If his current activity is 'Wait', change it to 'Follow Avatar'.
e. Are any of his other schedules set? If not, update one of them by setting the type to 'Follow Avatar' and the location to anything valid (like 1000,1000).
f. Get out of the cheat menu.
g. Hit ctrl-t 8 times to make a full day go by.
h. Go back to the cheat menu, to Dupre's page.
i. He should be at a valid location. Use "'" to teleport to it.
j. Ask him to join.
k. Get out of the cheat-menu, and use F3 to teleport to where you were playing.

Good luck!

I believe his NPC# is 2

I tried setting his business schedule to follow the avatar and tricks like that, before posting, but didn't have any joy.

What _did_ work, is when I reached the wall of lights, the monk appeared,
bitched that the party of four wasn't there, and promptly teleported him in!

So that's a strange problem solved nicely! All that's left is to go kick the
banes ass. Hopefully I'll be able to play the entire way through without
encountering any serious bugs. Has this been done yet?

Oh, at 0463,0316 (hex) - that's 1123,0790 dec (from the cheat screen),
I noticed two strange walls that seemed out of place, having the label
'wall of lights'. Are these meant to be here? Just wondered if anyone
else wanted to check..

:-) Saved by the Usecode.

People (including) me have gotten all the way through, but not without finding lots of bugs. But then, I think the bug you've encounted >is< pretty serious.
