Sound Problem solved? All with Vortex (Diamond MX), or C-Med

This concerns all who have a Vortex Chip based card (or Vortex 2) like the Diamond MX300 or C-Media cards running on Win9x (windows 95,98,ME).
The problem in the past was that people with that hardware could either get sound effects or music or speech but had problems with both.
We suspect now (actually we are pretty certain) that it was due to the buggy DirectSound of SDL and we are now forcing Exult to use WaveOut instead.
This will be the default with the next snapshot availlable at http://exult.info/download.php
So download the binary snapshot with the date 2002-01-14 (or even newer) whenever that is availlable.
Please report back if you can now hear Music, sfx and speech.
Thank you

UPDATE: Ater sending many emails back and forth with a reader of this board, we've found a solution for the C-Media cards.
Seems that those were not affected by the DirectSound/Waveout problem.
The easy solution was hidden in
http://exult.info/docs.php#win32_device
experimenting with the midi devices showed that
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth was the only device that allowed music, sfx and speech to coexist.
To get the device number to use, follow the instructions in the above link.
Thanks to SirHugh for testing.
