Quite hard to install on OS X

Post by Michael Zech »

Hi there!

I managed to install exult on mac os but it was not really an easy task for the documentation is not too good. I don't think that anyone who isn't really experienced in UNIX is able to get it up and running.

So if you want, I could write a Mac OS getting started documentation with all the steps needed to get it running. Just tell me if you want it ;)

Have you looked at the most recent threads? Especially the one where we now have a snapshot which makes initial installation a drag'n'drop action. Then only editing exult.cfg is needed (and that is described in the docs).
And did you read Readme.Macosx in the source?
But yes, additional information is welcome

If you could figure out how to compile Exult Studio in OSX I'd really be interested in reading how you did it from a to z. Exult itself is pretty basic to build imo.

I will fully admit that I'm far from savvy when it comes to these things, but I too can't get it to work. I'm on a G4 iMac (without the Pentium) 10.4.11.

I've downloaded it. I dragged the data folder into the applications. I dropped the STATIC folder into the data folder. I have the Exult icon in the applications folder as well. If you click on it it pops us saying "Warning Could not find the data files for either "The Black Gate" or "Serpent Isle". Please edit the configuration file and restart Exult

Then you must force quit.

First of all, which version of Exult are you using? The 1.2 version or the snapshot? I'd recommend the snapshot, since it has maaaaaannnnyyyyy bug fixes compared to ages old 1.2 version, also it has a much easier way to get the games working.
I dragged the data folder into the applications. I dropped the STATIC folder into the data folder.
Please read http://exult.info/docs.php#path_config_osx IF you are using the snapshot version (again I really recommend using that).
If you are still having problems, please write here EXACTLY what you saved where on your mac (exact paths please) and we will be able to help you further.
