Have you gone back to the first versions of exult? i remember the first versions made my comp crash when i tried to start it then about 3 versions later it worked and now the latest version once agian crashes my comp what's up?
Here's my comp spec
198 meg of ram
667 Pentium 3
Radeon 32 meg 3d card
MotherBoard Unknown
Sound card I don't know but even if i turn off sound it still doesn't work.

Operating System and Sound Card would be nice to know for troubleshooting.
Also things to try:
configure Exult to not start fullscreen, not to use scalers, sound entirely disabled...
Also look into stderr.txt and stdout.txt if there is anything written that might give you a hint.

Does this happen immediately when you enter the Exult Screen?
or does it happen when you start a new game and load a savegame? If it only occurs when you load a savegame, then the game is probably corrupt.

It happens when i try to start ultima 7 and SI, Umm strout and strrin don't help at all, The old Exults work, but this one doesn't, my operating system? Windows 98.

umm those strr files don't say a thing just empty

and i don't have it on full screen and i have sound turned off and everything just doesn't work.

By the Way Sometimes in very rare cases the game shows the intro WOOOHOO
