Creature dimensions

I noticed that every creature in the games occupies an even square in the X-Y dimensions. Obviously the actual graphics do not always occupy such space even approximately, for instance with the alligator. Any thoughts as to why they were made this way? What problems would creatures of unequal dimensions cause? One problem I can think of is if for example a 3x5 sized creature moved into a hallway four blocks wide, and then tried turning sideways.

I drew a handful of larger creatures, bigger than the cyclops, dragon and hydra(which I reckon are the biggest), and had Exult crash whenever they'd walk around for more than a few seconds.

That's just a bug in Exult. I'm not sure, but I don't think there's any restriction on monsters being square.

Thanks for the information. I guess that's just something the game developers did for the sake of convenience then.
