This is not related to ultima 7 but i really couldn't find any info about it in the internet.
Is there a (document, information or) any program (about reading) to read the data files of ultima 5?

You can download an Ultima 5 map editor here:
http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~asgard/index2.htm

Some of the Ultima 5 files (in the PC version) have been compressed with the LZW algorithm. You can find decompression source code here:
http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~asgard/U5/index.htm

You can also use www.google.com to search the major Ultima newsgroups:
rec.games.computer.ultima.dragons
rec.games.computer.ultima.series

I'm curious: what do you want this information for?
Are you going to write an "Exult for Ultima 5"?

No,( oh perhaps:)) i wanted to make an u4/5 online game with it, but im probably using the upgrade tiles of u4 now(so the players don't need to have u4 or 5), and also some stuff of u5, so thank you.

There is a MMORPG called Dransik(for Windows) that uses the U5 graphics, in case you didn't know.

i know, but that uses the original graphics of u5, but i want to colorize them(those of u4 u5) and for items ill use the ones of u6, u7, u8 or uo.
And the other porblem with dransik is: it's neither open source nor do they prvide you with a server. and they are called dransik, but use the u5 graphics. Though this might prevent some copyright... suff i don't like the imagination to play a game that looks like an ultima but isn't even called like one. anyway, i want to learn to program, why shouldn't i start this project then?

oh and some other questions:
would the tiles look strange ingame if i made them translucent for black? and set background color areas and stuff, so that ther's not that black stuff around a char if he stands on grass or in the forest?
for that i would need a program that can change the translucent color of gifs in a whole list of files, does soemthing like this exist?

I've a vague memory of that happening. There might have been a filename in the installation that ended in '.' (like "xxxx.".). If so, try copying it to "xxxx" (without the '.').

If the little avatar doesn't have the black square background, he might
be hard to see, depending on the terrain he is on.
