Training Bug?

I don't know if I am doing somethign wrong to cause this or not but I am running the 1.5 snapshot and the SI Fixes mod while playing Serpent Isle and training doesn't seem to work.
No matter which trainer I vists or which character I train, they gain the primary stat bonus from the training but their Combat skill is reduced to 1. Training them a second time reduces their combat skill to 0. Training them a third time raises it back to 1 and it seems to keep bouncing back and forth from 1 to 0.

Have I done something to cause this in my settings or is the latest snapshot just buggy?

I found a couple more bugs while playing.
Buying spells was a little weird. Other than Mortegro, no-one else wanted to charge me for anything - they sold every spell for either a cost of 0 or 1. Haggling didn't work either, I could haggle that cost of 1 down to 0 easily enough but then although the sale looked like it went through, the spell wasn't added to my book.
I actually had a lot of trouble getting spells from the mages, often they would pretend they gave it to me but they didn't.
Getting Great Douse from Ensorcio was the biggest trouble. Even without haggling and agreeing to his price of 1, the sale wouldn't go through. I eventually managed to get the spell by paying in gold instead of Guilders.

I couldn't build Boydon either. The machine accepted all of the body parts fine with the proper animations but it kept spitting out the Phoenix Egg. Eventually I had to cheat and change the Flags to make Erstam think Boydon had been created already to continue the game.

Now I am leaving Moonshade and have come across another issue. Casting Chill seems to crash the game.

I have a save on Erstam's Isle, just before trying to build Boydon but I can't find any files in either the SI Folder or the Exult folder that look like save files... I don't know how to send it.
Also, I am a little concerned about updating to the newest snapshot for that same reason - if I can't isolate my save game files, I'm concerned that installing the latest snapshot will get rid of them or render them unusable (I'm still halfway through the game and don't want to have to start again).

There is a faq entry on the bug reporting where we write where the savegames are. Installing a new snapshot will not delete any saves.
You really should update or be left with the broken version you are now using

I downloaded the new snapshot and it seems to have fixed pretty much everything I said.
Creating Boydon went flawlessly.
The mages are selling their wares at appropriate rates (although I can't confirm that the haggle function is working as I own all of their spells already but it sure looks fixed).
Casting Chill doesn't crash the game.
Training doesn't reduce the character's combat bonuses to 1 or 0 any more.

It did however add a couple of new bugs, one of which really annoyed me.
1. I don't know if this counts as a bug, or a bug fix over the original game but I have noticed that training with the Gauntlets of Quickness on doesn't make a difference to training without them on. In the original game, the extra 10 Dex from the Gauntlets was factored in to the Rubber Band effect and the Combat stat would go up with the extra Dex taken into consideration (essentially gaining 5 more Combat stat points by wearing the gloves while training than you would without).
The latest snapshot of Exult doesn't do that. Wearing the gloves has no impact on the amount of Combat stat points gained.

2. This one really ruined my day... The Quicksave function is broken. Saving a game in any slot saves your game in that slot and also saves over the quicksave. Loading a game saves over the quicksave slot with the loaded game. Loading up my bugged Boydon summoning overwrote my quicksave.

That's just how the quicksave works. It's not intended for long term use.

One more thing I have noticed is that the Helm of Light isn't functioning as a heat source as it did in the original game.

The helm of light acts as a light source for the party and gives warmth to the person wearing. It works that way in both Exult and in the original game; the the warmth given can actually be read off in the NPC stats cheat screen (in Exult as well as in the original) if you want to compare. You may be misremembering things.
