Laggy Linux play

Just wondering if this is a bug that's been squashed, an issue on my side, or a bug no one has noticed but when using Exult in linux with BG or SI the game plays like Quake 3 on a 350 mhz computer. I can see the frames drop as I'm walking with my party from one place to another pretty much reguardless of what's around.

Specs:
T-bird 750
Radeon w/DRI
SDL 1.2.3
Exult 96
DMA 33 enabled
kernel 2.4.17
Xfree86 4.1.0

I don't notice general "lag", but I notice that the came pauses sometimes, every few steps it seems. It feels like it's loading something.
BTW I've played Quake3 on my 200MHz computer and it does not pause frequently like this. :)

ROFL! I figured there'd have to be one person who'd say something about my Q3 comment. :P In Windows I notice the same slight pause, more of a hicup every three or four steps too but this is literally watching the frame refresh while moving.

Quit playing it in a 4x window or with 2xSaI on or something. :)

Also, did you build with 'debug'? That can slow it down a lot. I play with 320x200 and 2X scaling on a K6-2/500, and it's usually fairly smooth. There are some slowdowns in a few places, mostly when there are a lot of NPC's doing things nearby.

I don't think I did build with debug as I only did ./configure make make install. I changed to 2xSAI and performance is improved for 320x240.

Make that 320x200, I misread what I clicked.
