hello. first off, lemme say that i love this program. ultima 7 was one of my favorite games as a kid, and now i get to relive that fun all over again. great job on all the new additions as well
right now however, i'm having a problem getting exult to run. i have both u7 and u7p2, and neither of them work. the exult main menu runs fine, and so do both games when their respective buttons are clicked. however, after finishing the "enter name/portriat" screen, and i click journey onward, the whole thing closes. no crash, no error, just closes.
this is frustrating me, as i've played it many times on different (and less impressive) computers, and i don't know why this one would have difficulties. any info on what i might be missing would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
Mike Medlock

Re: having crash issues...

i figured out my problem when i was reading through older posts here.
(had spaces in the path lines in the exult.cfg file.)
i s'pose i shoulda just read further down the list

Re: having crash issues...
What version of exult are you using? IIRC, I fixed that 'spaces in a path'
problem long before RC1, and it certainly should be fixed with it...

Re: having crash issues...
This would interest me as well. I intentionally left this out of the FAQ as I thought it was fixed pre-rc1...

Re: having crash issues...
yeh im getting the exact same problem ,
im running the game (U7 Black gate) with the latest Exult on an AThlon 1.3Ghz/512RAM under windows 2000 Professional.
A friend of mine got the game working properly under win98 on his computer (P900/256RAM) but when he tried to run under WinME it crashes exactly the same way.
I imported his save game over from when it did work and everything goes fine if i load the game but crashes as soon as i save or start a new game
=(

Re: having crash issues...
You don't seem to have the same problem (that Exult crashes on Journey onward because of spaces in the path).
Your problem sounds more like the common, but yet unidentified problem with corrupt savegames.

Re: having crash issues...
Someone else also had problems recently loading (zipped) savegames in windows ME, while the same savegames worked without any problems in win98/winXP/Linux. This was worked-around by setting save_compression_level to 0. (uncompressed)
