No sound effects in RC1.

Post by Frobozz »

Hi all:

I just compiled & installed the RC1 of Exult (Linux, Debian Woody, GCC 2.95.4). Works great, with the exception of the sampled sounds.

I have the jmsfx.flx file installed in the data directory as the instructions say, and the exult.cfg file has a WAVS section pointing to it (again, just following the instructions).

However, when I run exult I get the MIDI music, but there is a speaker icon with a big red X through it beside the main menu. I've tried everything, from specifying the full path to the FLX file to running as root ( :0) and it still doesn't work--I still get the speaker with an X through it.

Any ideas how to fix this?

it has to be "waves" in exult.cfg and keep in mind that Linux is very case sensitive.

also look at what stderr.txt says (or your console - see http://exult.info/docs.php#error_log for what I mean).
If my soundfile is not correct it says something like:
"Digital SFX's file specified: jmsfx.flx... but file not found"

this might help you to troubleshoot

Thanks for the tips! You guys rock!

I had 'wavs' in my .exult.cfg file...you were right, it should have been 'waves'. I fixed that, and now I get the speaker icon without the big red X. :)
