Exult Studio

For the first time, I downloaded Exult Studio and tried it out... and it's great! It has a lot of potential to be a great utility for making new games.
Maybe when it's easier to edit shapes and add NPC dialogue/portraits then I can finally create my own game!
Meanwhile keep it up!
If I want to make new portraits using Photoshop..what is the palette to use? And how large the portrairt(for SI)?
(Exult has become SO much easier to use then when it first came out, or rather since last year.)

It should use the same palette (palettes.flx) as the regular shapes. Have you tried WJP's Photoshop plugin?

Yep but I dun understand it too well. How do I extract the portraits from faces.vga?
So far I can open frames from pointers.shp only. And meanwhile, how do I load the palette.flx?

I'm not the most knowledgeable on this procedure, but I think you use 'expack -x shapes.vga' to extract ALL the individual shapes into separate files. Then you use the plugin on each of these. I'm not sure how the plugin deals with the palette, but maybe it's finding it (palettes.flx) automatically.

The in-game palette is hardcoded into the plugin. (both gimp and photoshop)
In the gimp plugin you can select other palettes when loading a shape. (you'll have to extract the palette manually, though)

I've put the Studio Documentation online this morning and it might help you further.
We even have the docs for our tools online now and these are linked from the Exult Studio docs. see
http://exult.info/studio.php#tools
Also I would recommend using the Gimp instead of Photoshop.

Also thanks to wip and DrCode for providing much insight.
Exult Studio is really a good program and I hope it will be developed further..
