Please post your plans? It will encourage and spur our exult team onwards...

It's not quite there yet in terms of creating new games, but it's not too far off. Definitely something to look forward to. Especially as it could put RPGMaker quite easily in the shade, with a little effort (because - for one - it'd be cross-platform compatible, which RPGMaker isn't).

It IS possible to start creating a game now. You might have to start out 'borrowing' U7 graphics for gumps, fonts, and sprite-effects, plus you wouldn't be able to create your own magic system yet. But you can start building a world from your own artwork, and you can write Usecode scripts describing actions and conversations.
Still, nothing in ExultStudio is well-tested, so this wouldn't be something I'd recommend for the faint-hearted:-)

Yes I plan on something with exult studio using the u7 graphics as they are. I'm waiting for some more releases of studio though before commencing. I plan on what you could call u7 pt3.

Can I ask what features you're waiting for (other than fewer crashes)? I'm trying to think of what to work on next.

Multiple Map/Plane support in Exult is something I am interested in having before I get to work on anything major with EStudio. I havn't requested the feature because I assumed the team was too busy with other things at the moment, and that if I really wanted it bad enough I could code it myself and send a patch in.
Please be aware that I havn't gotten the latest update of Exult for some time, so the feature may already be there and this message is moot.

I'd say that this is a pretty important feature too, since hiding dungeon levels on mountain ranges and such is pretty lame. I'm guessing that adding this feature would be non-trivial, though.

You would guess that it would be trivial but it's not trivial at all.
This is definitely a post 1.0 feature. There is no chance it will get in before then. It will require fairly substantial changes to the way Exult functions to get it to work.

Colourless is correct. I should have been more specific: What features should be added to ExultStudio? Some things that have been requested, like a 'paint' mode so that you don't have to drag-and-drop new shapes, have been added recently.

Read my post more closely. I said that I'm guessing that such a feature would be *NON*-trivial.

'Some things that have been requested, like a 'paint' mode so that you don't have to drag-and-drop new shapes, have been added recently.'
I agree this is a useful feature. Besides this, the win32 port cannot save the shapes automatically, and I hope this will be corrected.

Too bad that one project died.
Try to E-mail them and ask them to give you the progress.
You could work from that.

'...you can write Usecode scripts describing actions and conversations.'
That would be funny, but where can I find Infos about Usecode? I just watched the Code of the ES-Demo. OK is there a list of predefined functions, variables or structures? whats about the initgame.dat? How must I change this file to test my work? Is it possible to decompile the original usecode to get a example of programming actions? Could Dominus add this questions to the faq?

As I just wrote on #exult:
"I'm fairly certain that I won't do that"
"though I started somewhat on the Studio docs but I would certainly need help from experienced uusecode users like Darke, wjp or Jeff"
But you can change and test the script from the Demo following the instructions in the readme and the stuff I wrote in the Studio docs...
http://exult.info/studio.php#usecode_edit (I just noticed that I forgot to set the ) a couple of times
)

The demo is really fine, but you cant program a game with these bits of code.
I dont expect you to answer the questions, Dominus, but you could collect the questions and answers (I hope there will be some answers) for the FAQ.

Maybe I'll try to write a new 'patch' that's more like a real game, but still using the U7 art. That's usually the best/only way to find what really needs to be fixed or improved in the tools. My guess is that the Usecode compiler still needs a lot of polishing.
I'm just too busy this week, though, so maybe next.

Something else for the patch: making it possible to start at the beginning of BG and not on the patch isle. You could also integrate that little patch I wrote just around february (with Colourless and SharpTooth on the island).
