Teleport (how-to)

I could never figure out how to teleport in Ultima VII 1&2. I think it has something to do with the Mark and Recall spells, but I've never been able to teleport from one location to another. Has anybody managed to figure out how to do this, if so how?

You mean without cheating? You need one of the 'virtue stones' (the coloured ones, NOT the runes) from the Britain museum. When you're at a place you want to get back to, cast Mark on the stone. Later, if you cast Recall on that same stone, you should teleport back there.

How did you finish u7 black gate without knowing how to mark and recall? And without cheating of course.

I never used mark/recall, the flying carpet was always much more convenient. *grin*

I can't remember whether I ever did finish the Black Gate. I have a bad habit of playing a game for several hours and then leaving it for several months.
Cheating though is not part of my philosophy. I believe that in the quest for perfection one must first be willing to sacrifice loss in the face of defeat. Only then will truth become clear to that of the blinded eye.

I didn't think that you could use the flying carpet inside a dungeon.

"I didn't think that you could use the flying carpet inside a dungeon."
Well, you can't. But none of the dungeons are large enough to require the use of mark/recall. I marked a stone in Britain once, but that was it - I always preferred the carpet as well.

You do remember there is just ONE place you HAVE to use the mark and recall near the end?
I don't want to give away too much since there may be people who have actually not played this far yet.

There is no place where you HAVE to use Mark/Recall. At least I've never done it during my three runs through BG.

Stephan is right. You can complete BG without Mark/Recall. I have many times.

I think what MV is refering to is the bug in the dungeon on the isle of the avatar. If you fly you magic carpet over the mountains on a certain spot on the island, you trigger a door inside. If this happens, you can only complete the game if you use mark/recall. This was in the original anyway... not sure if exult is the same.
I think...
