I'd just like to say a big thanks to the team for making Exult. I just got out my old Ultima 7 CD the other day to play it, but then remembered the hassle I had trying to get it to run under DOS, let alone Windows XP. I downloaded Exult and it all works almost perfectly.
You've done a great job, keep it up!

absolutely. i did get all the ultimas to run allright, but U6, U7 and U8 I couldn't run with sound. i could run U6 in Win98, but i had to run U7 and U8 in DOS, and of course, modern sound cards don't support sound in DOS. I missed my crappy old computer right then, cuz at least I could play the games with sound, no matter how crappy it sounded. Now i get pretty decent midi sound with Exult. EXULT ROCKS!!!

You can get sound in DOS with a SB Live. Don't remember what I did (if anything) to get it to work, but I got U8 to run in Win98 DOS mode before my last format. Or are you referring to newer cards than the Live?

The live! got dos drivers so it is possible to run it with some games. Problem is that the drivers require emm386.exe to be loaded and that makes it impossible for games like U7.
The other problem with U8 and the Crusader games is that they won't run if there are more than 128 MB RAM in the system. This can be solved by installing Ramdisks in DOS.
Of course we have a link to a patch that lets you play U8 in Win32 (win9x, ME, 2k, XP). Though the NT-based OS have problems playing the sound. With VDMS (a soundcard emulator for NT) you will be able to hear the music but sfx and speech are not working (e.g. sound very garbled).

I must congratulate the Exult Team for their perfect work. I was thinking that my U7 CD was part of my game museum, but it is not !
Playing Black Gate or Serpent Isle in 640x480 or even 800x600 enhances the fun to play the game to a level never reached before
Thanks !
