Hey, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of screaming "READ THE DOCS!!!" at people. *grin*

But screaming "READ THE DOCS!!!" at someone can still be fun.

Yeah, but they can't hear you through the monitor, so your family might just think you're crazy, hehe

But then again, one ounce of "Read the FAQ" can head of a ton of unnecessary questions
no offense intended

How do make an NPC?
Oh, yeah... I read the documentation!

he he that part is not in the documentation.
To make an NPC, you start a game in Exult, start map-editing mode,
switch over to Exult Studio, click object->NPC.
Now, you can drag a face from faces.vga onto the opened new NPC window, you can drag a shape onto it (so your npc has a body), Choose a name and save for one thing all is pretty obvious what you can do with it.
The one thing is of course the field labeled "usecode". This assigns the usecode to the NPC. Without that you can'T talk to an NPC... (for usecode I recommend reading the latest addition to the ES docs, the link to the ucc documentation).
When you click apply you are asked to click in the Exult window where to add that new NPC...
So that was the quick run down.

I really ment it, but I wasn't making fun of you. I saw there wasn't one right after I posted the last message. Coincidence, not anything else. I thought I was just joking around. Anyway, I still need help on it.
It doesn't do anything when I double click on him.
As of now I'm using the automaton's usecode for him to make another party member for myself.

I don'T really understand what you mean by all that. Or more exactly I can't help you with the information you have given me on your problem. Please be more precise.

In Exult Studio-
I make an NPC.
I give him all he needs, mostly from copying from other NPC's.
I put in the Usecode from the Automatons.
I exit out of Exult Studio.
In the game-
He just stands there and ignores his full schedule I gave him.
The only time he reacts is when I attack him.
When I click on him once, up pops his name because I set the 'Met' flag.
When I double click on him, his name pops up for a millisecond, and then nothing happens.
Tell me if you need more information.

You have to go into the 'Flags' section of the NPC dialog and check the 'walk' box. I guess that should be on by default.

tell us, what usecode you are using (and please not just "the one for the automatons" - tell us the value you enter).

Hi Dom,
I think this question is not in the FAQ: How can I remove a npc or a shape ?

One other 'bug' (missing feature) in ES: While you can set the schedules that take effect at different times of day, there's no place to set the initial schedule.

DrCode: do you think, thats the problem with the not moving npc? After I attacked the npc he started moving. This problem appears with standard-NPCs too. So Petre isnt moving until you talk with him. And Iolo moves after a period of time

probably! you can test this with the F2 cheat screen. first click the npc, then press f2, choose NPC tool, buisness activity and change there the current one.

hmm, is there a list off all npcs of BG and SI with name and NPC#?

I'm sure there is one on the net. but I find browsing it in the F2-Cheat menu is sufficient for me. Or one left-click on npc and then enter npc-tool of the f2 menu and you see the name and npc #.

Ahh I had problems with this. In the npc-tool you are asked to insert the npc#. I did not know, that i just must hit return to get the selected npc

Check this site, if it's still up anymore...
www.ultima7online.com
If the site wasn't taken down yet, you can grab a copy for either game there.
BTW, that's not me asking for Ultima 7 to be online again,
, it's just the name of the site. Coincidence, no?

I'm using the usecode for the automaton named stan that is on a table that can be ressurected in moonglow's magic shop. I ressed him and copied his usecode and put it on my new npc.
The usecode is: 0x4e8
