Can anyone recommend good forums to get detailed gameplay information? I'm stuck in a perticular place and the walkthrough's haven't been helping me.

Thanks

Well, the best group to ask is the Ultima series newsgroup rec.games.computer.ultima.series (access through your usenet client).
Or if you really have no clue about usenet ask here.
And actually one never knows, if you are stuck it might be that our engine "stuck" you :-)

well I'll post it here in case it is a bug...

I'm trying to complete the Test of Love in FOV. I have tried over and over again to attack the tree with the pick and place the buckets next to the stone...But I never get them to fill with blood.

This is real simple, and it's not like I didn't have the exact same problem myself the last time I played FOV. :-)

What you need to do is Double click on the axe to use it (not attack with), then click on the tree/rock.

Just the other day I cried when I spent hours trying to turn off a laser
barrier in Crusade: No Remorse. Turns out the switch (right next to the lasers) was just flipped too early, and all I needed to do was flip it twice to turn the lasers off. This was discovered after I destroyed everything in the room to find another "hidden" switch.

Ooops thats not even Ultima related.

Surely you were just doing research to find out how similar the Crusader and Ultima 8 engines are? ;-)

/me categorically denies that anyone is researching how close the U8 and TGWDS (The Games We Don't Support) engines are. Because, y'know, we don't support them.

Move along, move along, nothing to see here.

While we're at it, I cant fiugre out the quest in SI to get a spellbook. I go to the north of monk isle and wander around the swamp looking for frest mandrake root to no avail. is this an engine bug or am I doing something wrong?

this is the most evil quest in the game. The mandrake only appears at certain times, so you have to chat to one of the monks repeatedly until by the power of astral projection he observes the miraculous appearance of the mandrake.
