zaurus port and sound

Con someone tell me if sound works with the zaurus port of exult? I installed SDL-mixer (I think thats for sound isn't it?) but can't figure out how to activate the sound. Trying to turn it on in the game quits exult. So is it possible to play with sound on the z (and am I doing anything wrong) or not?
