possible savegame corruption?

(this is in serpant isle with silver seed, using the latest exult on a windows XP pentium 3 600 mhz)
I'm stuck in moonshade. I talked to pathos, he said I need to get him some bloodmoss for him to tell me his secret (i.e. how to get to the mad mage) I went to the swamp and got the bloodmoss, carried it back, but I cant get him to acknowledge it, he acts as though nothing has happened (this is after the banquet). did I forget something? I've talked to nearly everyone, but to no avail.
I had a similar thing happen with Julia not giving me the key when I first tried to play through this game, and then my savegame eneded up ruined around shamino's castle. Is this a similar corruption? If it is, then this is twice that exult has corrupted my savegames on two clean installs. Is there any way I can prevent this?
I just want to beat the game... is that so wrong?

Hm, I had this problem too last time I played through SI, but it turned out I needed to gossip with Bucia a bit before Pathos really offered the right option.
The 'wrong' conversation option makes Pathos say something like "I would trade my dearest secret for some bloodmoss.". This does not really trigger the quest, however.

ok, that's what he said, I guess I'll give the game anotehr shot. However, can anyone suggest ways to avoid corrupting savegames? (I *really* don't want it to happen again.) I don't know if that's still an issue or not, maybe I'm being paranoid
BTW, which one is Bucia again?

Unfortunately, a 'corrupted savegame' (where the data is just plain wrong) results from bugs in our code. So if we knew what caused the corruption, we'd fix it.

ok, that's kinda what I figured, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that was known to make it worse. I'll just cross my fingers that I can make it through the game before it breaks. Thanks for all the advice

We fixed a couple of major 'savegame breaking' bugs a couple of months ago, and IIRC we haven't had any reports of savegame corruption since. So I suspect you're 'safe' to try it at the moment. *grin*

talking about corrupted savegame, I was enraged early sunday morning when I saved my SI game just after talking to Palos in the City of Order. Let me explain what happened:
In the city of order, you must find Batlin. His dudes are out there and at some point a door is closed and you flip the switch and Palos appears. He talks to you, leave and then the door opens. Well, I saved while the door got opened. Naturally, I reloaded the game a little bit later (without making any other saves) and now the door is closed (although the switch is in open-mode) and Palos stays around. I guess I saved during a usecode function run and it is a pain because it didn't save the state of the usecode function.
I have to reload from _WAY_ before and I'm really angry at myself for saving during that sequence.

Bucia is the girl who runs the provisioner's shop. You have to gossip with her about Pathos or else he will not reveal his secret. This was in the original game as well.

Yeah, only when you confront him with the rumor about his heritage will he set off the quest for bloodmoss.
