Forced into the path of virtue...

Ultima 7 The Black Gate is my favourite of all the Ultimas; no other Ultima offers as much freedom or as much fun as Black Gate...
...partly due to the fact that you could play the game in a manner that made me call it, "Grand Theft Auto before Grand Theft Auto".
The fact of the matter is that Black Gate was loaded with all sorts of gameplay bugs that were easily exploitable but tremendously fun; the mark of this game was that it was so good that the bugs enhanced gameplay.
I am very grateful for the work on Exult, and how it has granted me the ability to play Ultima 7 again, as well as share it with my friends who have never had the opportunity to play it.
However, I was deeply disappointed when I loaded up the Exult Black Gate because it had implemented an anti-thievery mechanic rather like in Serpent Isle. No more was I to loot every building at my whim. Nevertheless, I'm hoping that things like the incredible bank robbery (wherin the bank lady is killed and resurrected!) and nighttime shop looting have not been removed from the game. Playing the game like a robbing hood in such a well-realised and interactive world was too much fun; it's a shame that this game element had to changed so dramatically.
In any event, props to Exult.
