A real blast

Post by artaxerxes »

DrCode and the rest of all of you who worked hard on features for ES:

I love your work folks! I'm having a blast at creating my own game, it's so cool! Now that I've got a good hand at it, I am having such a great fun.

Thanks again and keep up the hard work!

This is cool. And it will help drive development of ES so that it becomes more usable. Maybe we'll show the game companies that some people still want plot-based games instead of endless variations on Doom.

Endless variations on Doom

Post by Gileatane Dragon »

Complex intricate plots, difficult puzzles (as opposed to 'get item - use item - fight boss' ) do seem to be lacking in todays games. Everyone seems to want a game that they can win without difficulty.

Bores me to tears sometimes.

The amount of time it took to win the old Ultimas (4,5,6 underworlds and to a slightly lesser extent u7 and serp) was immense, and I loved it. Maybe I've just gotten older and games have always been that way.. I dunno.
Development of ES to the point where it could be used to (bear with me here) re-do the ultima series would rock - though certain things (the ship to ship battlefield of Ultima IV's Isle of the Avatar would be one) would be hard to implement.

just rambling.

remaking Ultimas

Post by Dino3 »

Hey, I think remaking the old Ultimas with the Exult (Ultima 7) engine is a really good idea! :)

I've had another cool idea!

You know how hard it is to keep perspective when drawing characters and such... Here is the way to do it:

Get a digital camera and a box of lego.
Set the camera on a stand and an angle that's appropriate, mark a spot on where the items to picture are supposed to be.
Make you shape with your legos and take a picture of it and edit in your favorite editor!

Now, where do I put those legos of mine....

I´m with you on this, Gileatane Dragon. But just think that not only users want an easy game ( stupid game sometimes ), but the companies that develop or distribute games have one main priority: TO SELL
So they develop games that can be finished quickly by the users, because then these users will be in the need of buy another game to continue playing. This situation generates MONEY!
Gone appear to be those times when storyline and good plots were important. Nowadays implementing 3D graphics and some "house" music to a @!#$ could be a great business. Well, perhaps I´m extremely pessimist but... "Something´s rotten in my kingdom"

Are you saying that game makers do that now and it makes money, or are you saying they should do that but they dont?

Couldnt have said it better myself =)
Its the way it is unfortunately . . if games released nowadays had the quality we look for, we would'nt spend so much time on the Exult boards =)

But, SB-X: How do you think I could say that!! It must be my awful english, that almost everybody tend to misunderstand me sometimes. They actually DO IT ( not the game developers-makers but the companies that they work for compel them ) and I think it´s horrible. Nowadays the games-market is saturated by those stupid games.
And, Gileatane Dragon ( or Gileathane; resolve it [;-))... ), although the quality of actual games is not as good as we could desire we shouldn´t despair. Maybe future good games will raise from these boards... May the Force be with us! [:-P)

It isn't that everybody misunderstands you. Maybe it is just me. :)
I just don't know what "house" music is or what "to a @!#$" means.
And I like 3D graphics so I thought maybe you meant it is a good thing. :)

Hey SB-X!:

"House" music? Well, perhaps in english it´s called in a different way. Anyway it´s enough to tell you that is pathetic. Imagine an army of blacksmiths hammering on your poor tympanus following a repeatitive rhythm. It´s much like that.
To a @!#$? Ejem... it seems that posting words like "s - h - i - t" is not a respectable attitude on this phorum. Try to do it and you´ll see... Just thinking about which another words could be "restricted & encoded"...
Hmmm... Yes, I like 3D graphics too. It´s only that nowadays they appear to be the only important thing in many games along with music and some "revolutionary" technical effects, abandoning things like plots or the pleasure that good stories can give. [:-))

Oh I knew what @!#$ might mean, just not "To a @!#$". ;)
So you are basically saying that games nowadays only want to focus on better 3D engines, and have lots of bad music? I agree, that is not a good thing. :)

Zósite - I'll stick to the 'th' spelling. sometimes i hit the 'h' key too fast. Now, moving on

I think Zós means music created in-house as opposed to commissioning an orchestra, or a freelance musician .

Which is not to say that all game music created inhouse and on the fly is ahh how you say tas de merde[/] its just that for the most part, its mediocre and repetitive.

imho.

SB-X: Yes, that´s it! And not only they´ve lots of bad music but total absence of good stories too.
Gileathane Dragon: You´re right too! Thanks for the illustration.

Anyway, I´m going to hang myself because of my bad english...
...
...
...Well, perhaps I will not hang myself ( due to the posterior neck achings ) [;-)) but I need to improve my english a lot. And, in order to begin this in a good way: what´s the meaning of "lol"? I´ve seen it so often...

Although that bold/italic stuff is all very nice *cough*; could you please use it moderately? It's really annoying to read posts which contain them.

Thanks prof. Dominus. Bad publicity? You could say: the perfect solution for EA deafness about Exult!! Hanging them could be even better...
-For those people from EA silently monitoring on this phorum: I´m not one of the project developers or official collaborators Never mind about my words or hanging behaviours. Let us be!! [:-D)
( Oooops!: sorry for abusing of bold again, WJP I´ll moderate myself in the future, but that could be IMPORTANT )

I´ve just read the #exult logs about bold/italic "problem"... My God! It´s much like:
"Look at there! Those stupid apes have learned how to use fire weapons. It´s horrible!! We must stop them!"
Ok, ok... Just say that you don´t like it ( It´s pretty sure to work ) and then, you will not need to hack up anything on the phorum...

No sweat wjp - you keep the emotes down, we'll only resort to italics and bolds in emergencies.

I really like the text codes and don't find them annoying, but agree they don't need to be in every post. I don't think the codes should be kept secret if they are available to us.

Now, how much further "off-topic" can we push this thread? ;)

Somehow, I doubt if anyone from Origin/EA reads this, although we get occasional posts from people who wrote the original U7.
