Looking at (examining) an object

Post by cyrano »

I think back when i played U7 on dos, when I click (one left click) on
objects short descriptions appeared on the screen....

but I can't get any descriptions on objects when playing using exult.

is it not supported? or is there another way to get description of items?

I guess that's what he meant. Just know that not every item has a description. Clicking on grass won't tell you grass. But click once on yourself and you should see your name. Same thing with items in your inventory.

yeah Artaxerxes is right I'm talking about the names... somehow i got confused

and anyway, when I click on items (eg. bread) in my backpack, no
names appear.... tho when i click on the avatar, or Iolo, their names
appear.

solved the problem, by a rather bizarre way....

using xp pro version now, and the items names wouldn't pop up.
so i ran exult in Win98 compatible mode and it's good it's GOOD.

although it's a weird thing that i have to run this thing in win98 mode.

I can confirm the same issue:

Win XP Pro (SP1): no descriptions on left click, other than on characters.

Win98/Me compatibility mode: usual expected behaviour.

I also am having this problem. However, I was able to get the item name when I was using version 1.0. After upgrading to 1.1beta I lost the ability to examine the objects. Maybe a new bug in 1.1? Has anyone else been able to using 1.0?

I recall that this was a bug on all platforms, but it should have been fixed about a month ago.

Figured I'd add my input too. I'm using XP Pro, no descriptions except for characters as well.

Strange... I don't really see any big differences between text handling for items and NPCs.

I think someone neglected to fix it for NT/2000 :)

The problem has been found, and it's rather serious. We are in the process of fixing it.

wjp: the descriptions come from text.flx but not the character names IIRC.
