U7 item stats

Am used to modern CRPG games where we hover or click on weapons/armor, etc. and it displays the stats.

Is there a similar way in Ultima 7? All the items have generic simple names... and I cannot view their stats (convieniently and easily).

Nope, no ingame way, except maybe a book listing the stats somewhere.
You can use Exult Studio to learn the stats or look it up online... Otoh most are no brainers and easy to judge. There are no "mystical bastard pants of bloddy leather" which might be better than the "glorious plate leggins of the paladin"

I have noticed some oddities in the equipment. Such as that the "Amulet of Protection" apparently does not provide any protection.

Seems that some never received the necessary usecode function in the original code

Amulet of Protection? Am I completely blanking? Where does one get that?

There are a number of those in Serpent Isle. One particular location I can remember off the top of my head is somewhere in the Moonshade Seminarium.

WOAH! It looked so much like some other generic and presumably stat-less amulets that I never even noticed it!

I remember seeing it in SI, but never really thought much of it. I always assumed it was similar to the ring of protection.
