Thought this was a interesting read... i agree... i would love a Baldur's Gate style of battle were you can control your npc party... and make it where npc's like Mortegro can use the bloody spell book. Just saying lol

I like this idea. It could only help, but I think it would be easier to implement something more akin to Darklands' style of combat rather than a true turn-based system. Pause, issue orders, unpause to watch it play out with indefinitely repeated actions until new orders are issues. Slowing the speed of the game during combat would help make this more satisfying to watch as it plays out, though perhaps not as slow as Darklands.
I see one follow-up on that blog from February, and nothing since. I wonder if the effort is still on?

If this were combined with damage types it would require deeper strategy. The manual for SI lists bludgeoning, cutting, piercing and projectile. Magical and fire damage would also be useful.

I would certainly love having this feature. Combat is probably the single weakest aspect of Ultima VII.
